Brand Name : Ferium

Product Description

Ferium 1K Injection contains Ferric Carboxymaltose, a type of intravenous iron injection used to treat iron deficiency anemia (IDA), especially in cases where oral iron dietary supplementation is ineffective or not feasible.

Mechanism of Action :
A controlled release of iron is part of its mode of action. Iron-carbohydrate complexes are created when ferric carboxymaltose and maltodextrin combine after delivery. After that, the iron is gradually released and attaches to transferrin in the circulation, which carries it to the bone marrow where it is converted into hemoglobin, thereby raising iron levels and curing anemia.

Uses :

  • Iron Deficiency Anemia: Primarily used in patients with chronic kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, or those who cannot tolerate oral iron supplements.
  • Postpartum Iron Deficiency: Also used to replenish iron levels in postpartum women.

Dosage and Administration :
It can be administered as a intravenous injection or infusion. Typically administered based on the severity of anemia and the patient’s weight.

Side Effects :

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Injection site reactions.
  • Vomiting
  • Dark colored stool
  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Hypertension

Safety Advise :

  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of allergies, especially to iron products, as serious allergic reactions may occur.
  • Patients with liver condition should use Ferium 1K Injection with caution. It may be necessary to alter the dosage of Ferium 1K Injection. Kindly speak with your physician.
  • The safety of Ferric Carboxymaltose during pregnancy is not fully established. Consult your doctor for advice before use.
  • The safety of Ferric Carboxymaltose during breastfeeding is not fully established. Consult your doctor for advice before use.
  • Regular blood tests are required to monitor iron levels and to assess the response to treatment. Your doctor will watch for side effects like low phosphate levels.
  • Limit alcohol consumption, as it may interfere with iron absorption and the overall treatment.

Storage :
Store the injection at a temperature between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Do not freeze. Keep the injection in its original packaging to protect it from light.

How to use this Medication?
Ferric carboxymaltose is administered intravenously in 1 or 2 doses to treat iron-deficiency anemia, particularly in individuals with chronic kidney illness or those who are not tolerant to dietary supplements. It can be administered once every six weeks for up to five doses to enhance exercise capacity in persons with heart failure.

Your doctor will keep a careful eye on you for at least half an hour after administering ferric carboxymaltose because it might trigger serious allergic responses. For quick medical attention, report any symptoms such as dizziness, rash, swelling, shortness of breath, or chest pain—as soon as possible.
