Product Description

Colistin 3 MIU Injection is a polymyxin antibiotic containing Colistimethate Sodium used to treat serious infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. It is often used as a last resort when other antibiotics have failed and this is usually in a hospital.

Uses of Colistin 3 MIU Injection:

Severe Bacterial Infections

How does Colistin 3 MIU Injection work?

Colistin sodium is an inactive prodrug which is converted to the active form in the body after administration. Colistin has a bactericidal activity through binding to phospholipids and lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. This binding causes cell death by disrupting the cell membrane, increasing its permeability and releasing the cellular contents.

How to Use & Dosage?

Usually given as an intravenous infusion. The dose depends on the severity of the infection, the patient’s weight and renal function. Healthcare practitioners should monitor it closely for adjustment based on the risk of toxicity and the therapeutic response.

Colistimethate injections are usually given by injection into a muscle or as a mixture of powder and liquid injected into a vein over a period of 3 to 5 minutes, every 6 to 12 hours.

How long will you need to take therapy? This will depend on your health, type of illness and how well you respond to the drug. Also can be administered as continuous infusion of 22–23 hours.

Continue to use the colistimethate injection even if you feel better until you have completed the full prescribed amount. If you stop the colistimethate injection too early or miss doses, your infection may not be completely treated and bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics.
