Product Description

Elistin MX 4.5 MIU Injection is a polymyxin antibiotic. It contains Colistimethate Sodium. It is indicated for the treatment of serious infections due to multi drug resistant Gram-negative bacteria. This is often a last resort when other antibiotics don’t work, usually in a hospital.

Uses of Elistin MX 4.5 MIU Injection:

  • Severe Bacterial Infections

How does Elistin MX 4.5 MIU Injection work?

Colistin sodium is an inactive prodrug that the body converts to its active form after administration. Colistin is bactericidal by binding to phospholipids and lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. This binding disrupts the cell membrane and makes it more permeable. This increased permeability allows cellular contents to flow out of the cell, leading to bacterial cell death.

How to Use & Dosage

Dosage is affected by the severity of the infection, the patient’s body weight and renal function. It must be closely watched by healthcare practitioners in order to adjust for toxicity risk and therapeutic response.

Colistimethate injections are usually given every 6 to 12 hours as a muscle injection or as a powder and liquid mixture injected intravenously over a period of 3 to 5 minutes. The length of therapy depends upon your health, the type of illness, and how well you respond to the drug. It may also be given as a continuous infusion over 22-23 hours.

Even if you feel better, keep using the colistimethate injection until the full prescription is finished. If you do not finish the colistimethate injection treatment or take the drug at the same time each day, your infection may not be completely treated and the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics.
