Often used in combination with sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that inhibits some bacteria, which are resistant to destruction by ceftriaxone, to increase the effectiveness of ceftriaxone. Also it acts as a stabiliser to lower the toxicity and to increase the stability of the whole antibiotic. These factors lead to an increasing effectiveness of treatment of bacterial infections.
