Product Description
Merocrit 0.5gm Injection is used to treat serious bacterial infections. Meropenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic. It is very effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including those resistant to other antibiotics.

- Peritonitis
- Appendicitis
- Urinary Tract Infections
- Septicemia (Blood Infections)
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
- Meningitis
- Febrile Neutropenia
How does Merocrit 0.5gm Injection work?
Meropenem binds to penicillin binding proteins (PBPs) and inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. This prevents the cross-linking of the peptidoglycan layers and weakens the structure of the cell wall. The bacterial cell becomes susceptible to changes in osmotic pressure and cell lysis and death occurs as the integrity of the cell wall is compromised. Meropenem is active against a wide variety of bacteria including Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria. Its resistance to many beta-lactamases increases its effectiveness against resistant strains.
How to Use & Dosage
Administered intravenously (IV) by slow infusion over 15-30 minutes or as a bolus injection over about 5 minutes.
Meropenem is given by intravenous infusion every 8 hours. The duration of your treatment depends on your infection and how you respond to it. Once you are better your doctor may decide that you can finish the course of treatment with an oral antibiotic.
Meropenem injection should start making you feel better during the first several days of treatment. If your symptoms worsen or do not improve, see your physician.
Use the meropenem injection even if you feel better. Do not stop using the meropenem injection without talking to your doctor. If you stop taking meropenem injections too soon, or do not take them at all, your infection may not be completely treated and the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics.
