Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
1. What is Meroza 1gm Injection?
Meroza 1gm Injection is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic, MeroApenem, that may be prescribed for serious, hospital-acquired, or multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacterial infections in eligible patients.
2. What is the mechanism of action of Meropenem?
Meropenem is thought to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). It is generally stable to most beta-lactamase enzymes and this may allow it to maintain activity against many resistant strains of bacteria. Effectiveness dependent on susceptibility of the causative organism.
3. What infections can Meroza 1gm be used for?
Meroza 1gm is used for the treatment of severe infections like:
- Complex intra-abdominal infections
- Hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia
- Complex urinary tract infections
- Bacteraemia and septicaemia
- Bacterial meningitis (due to susceptible organisms)
- Febrile neutropenia in immunocompromised patients
Use based on culture, sensitivity results and clinical judgment.
4. How to take Meroza 1gm?
It is given as an intravenous (IV) infusion over 15-30 minutes, or as a longer infusion of 3-4 hours in some clinical protocols. It is administered by a health care professional in a hospital.

A commonly used dose for most infections is 1g by IV infusion every 8 hours. In meningitis or infections caused by highly resistant organisms 2g every 8 hours may be considered. Doses are frequently titrated in patients with renal impairment. Your doctor will prescribe the regimen that is most appropriate for you.
