Mechanism of Action:
Cefepime is a beta-lactam antibiotic that acts on the bacterial cell wall. Its spectrum of activity is wide and includes many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and some resistant species (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacteriaceae). It is more active against bacteria resistant to other cephalosporins because it is stable to most beta-lactamases.

Dosage and how to take it:
Routes are intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) injections. The dose of Cefepime is based on the severity of the infection and renal function.

Safety Advise:
Kidney
Cefepime is eliminated mainly by the kidneys and therefore requires dose adjustment in patients with renal impairment. Please check with your health care provider.

Meropenem may cause raised liver enzymes and prolonged treatment should be monitored by liver function tests particularly in patients with liver disease. Please discuss with your healthcare provider.
Pregnancy
Use cefepime in pregnancy only when clearly needed and under medical supervision, as its safety during pregnancy is not fully determined. Please check with your health care provider.
Breast-Feeding
Breastfeeding Caution should be exercised as the drug may pass into breast milk. Please speak to your healthcare provider.
Driving

Storage:
Keep in a cool dry place away from sunlight. Store at a temperature below 25°C.
How to use this medication?
Cefepime injection can be given as a premixed medication to be injected into a vein (intravenous) over 30 minutes or as a powder to be mixed with fluids. Cefepime injection can also be injected into a muscle. It is usually given every eight to twelve hours for seven to ten days.
Cefepime may also be given in a hospital or at home by infusion. If you are to receive cefepime at home, your health care professional will instruct you on how to give the injection. Please read these directions carefully and ask your healthcare practitioner if you have any questions.
