Tegonat 15mg Capsule

Tegonat 15mg Capsule is a combination of three medicines: Tegafur, Gimeracil and Oteracil potassium. This medicine is an anticancer medicine used in the treatment of certain types of cancers such as gastric, colorectal and other solid tumours.

How does a Tegonat 15mg Capsule work?

Tegafur is converted to 5-FU in the body, which inhibits the enzyme thymidylate synthase that is essential for DNA synthesis in the cancer cells, killing the cells. Gimeracil improves the anticancer activity of 5-FU by inhibiting its rapid degradation and extending the exposure of cancer cells to the active drug. Oteracil reduces the toxic effects of 5-FU on normal tissues, especially the gastrointestinal tract, and as a result, side effects such as severe diarrhoea and mucositis are reduced.

How to Use & Dosage:

Oral, usually in cycles, as advised by the oncologist depending on type, stage of cancer and patient’s tolerance.

• Stomatitis (mouth sores)
• Hand-foot syndrome
• Cardiotoxicity

Safety Advise:

🫀 Liver

The liver function should be checked from time to time because the drug can be toxic, especially in patients who already have a problem with their liver. Talk to your doctor.

🫘 Kidney

Periodic tests for kidney function are recommended as the drug can cause toxicity especially in patients with pre-existing conditions. Please speak with your health care provider.

🤰 Pregnancy

Tegonat is contraindicated in pregnancy because of the possibility of foetal harm. Please talk with your healthcare provider.

🤱 Breastfeeding

You should not breast-feed. The drug is excreted into breast milk. Please talk to your health care provider.

Storage Instructions:

Store in a cool place at 20°C-25°C (68°F-77°F). Store in a cool, dry, dark place. Don’t freeze up. Keep the medicine in its original packaging until you are ready to use it.
