Klacid IV Injection

Klacid IV Injection is a macrolide antibiotic that contains Clarithromycin, and is used to treat serious bacterial infections. In hospitals it is given intravenously to treat conditions such as skin infections, bronchitis and pneumonia.

Uses of Klacid IV Injection:

• Community-acquired pneumonia
• Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (AECB)
• Acute maxillary sinusitis
• Skin and soft tissue infections

How does Klacid IV Injection work?

Clarithromycin binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, inhibiting protein synthesis by blocking the translocation of aminoacyl-tRNA during translation. Now bacteria are unable to make important proteins needed for their growth and reproduction. Thus, clarithromycin acts mainly as a bacteriostatic agent to prevent the growth of bacteria, but at higher doses or against highly susceptible species it can also exert bactericidal activity. It has little effect on human ribosomes and is only effective in bacterial cells.

How to Use & Dosage

Adults should take 500 mg of Klacid IV slowly over the course of 60 minutes every 12 hours.

It is not known if Klacid IV is safe and effective in people with Kidney problems. Please consult your doctor.

🤰 Pregnancy

Klacid IV should only be used during pregnancy when clearly needed. Talk to your healthcare provider.

🤱 Breastfeeding

Using Klacid IV while nursing is most likely dangerous. Please consult your health care provider.

Storage Instructions

Use the reconstituted solution within 24 hours if it is refrigerated, and keep Klacid IV vials below 25°C and out of direct sunlight.
