Xylistin 1 MIU Injection is an antibiotic that contains colistimethate sodium and is used to treat severe bacterial infections caused by multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacteria.

Composition: Colistimethate sodium


Mechanism of Action:

Colistin binds with the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) layer of the Gram-negative bacterial membranes and improves the permeability of the membrane. This leads to the contents of the cell to flow out and the bacteria to die. It has very good activity against multidrug resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii and certain Enterobacteriaceae.
