Oxaltero 100mg Injection

Oxaltero 100mg Injection contains the active ingredient Oxaliplatin. The most commonly used chemotherapy drug for colorectal cancer is oxaliplatin. It is one of a group of medicines called platinum-containing anti-cancer medicines.

How does the Oxaltero 100mg Injection work?

Oxaliplatin is metabolized in the body to produce reactive platinum molecules. These compounds bind to DNA and prevent the DNA strands from cross-linking. This inhibits the ability of the cancer cells to replicate and use the DNA transcriptionally. This finally results in apoptosis or cell death, especially in rapidly growing malignant cells. Oxaliplatin is active against some cancer cells that have become resistant to other drugs such as cisplatin and carboplatin, but has a different toxicity profile to other platinum-based drugs.

How to Use & Dosage

The usual dose of Oxaliplatin is based on body surface area (mg/m²) and is usually given once every 2 or 3 weeks as part of a cycle of treatment, with other chemotherapy medicines such as leucovorin and fluorouracil. The drug is given slowly, over a period of two to six hours.

Oxaliplatin is a liquid solution that is administered into a vein. Oxaliplatin is given by a doctor or nurse. It is generally administered once in 14 days.

Oxaliplatin may cause increases in liver enzymes. Liver function tests should be monitored during prolonged therapy, particularly in patients with liver disease. Talk to your health care professional.

🤰 Pregnancy

Its safety in pregnancy has not been established and oxaliplatin should be given in pregnancy only if clearly needed and under medical supervision. Talk to your physician.

🤱 Breast Feeding

Breastfeeding is not recommended since the drug can pass into breast milk. Discuss it with your health care provider.

🍺 Alcohol

It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Oxaltero 100mg Injection. Speak with your healthcare provider.

Storage Instructions

Store in the refrigerator (2-8°C). Store away from light. Do not freeze.
