Product Description

Merofit 1gm Injection contains Meropenem which is a broad spectrum carbapenem antibiotic used in the treatment of severe bacterial infections. It is very active against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including strains resistant to other antibiotics.

Uses of Merofit 1gm Injection:

  • Pneumonia
  • Peritonitis
  • Appendicitis
  • Urinary Tract Infections
  • Septicemia (Blood Infections)
  • Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
  • Meningitis
  • Febrile Neutropenia

How does Merofit 1gm Injection work?

Meropenem acts by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. This breaks the cross-linking between the layers of peptidoglycan and weakens the structure of the cell wall. The integrity of the cell wall is compromised thus the bacterial cell is liable to osmotic pressure changes resulting in cell lysis and death. Meropenem is active against a broad range of bacteria including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Its activity against resistant strains is improved by its resistance to many beta-lactamases.

How to Use & Dosage

Administer IV by slow infusion over 15 to 30 minutes or as a bolus injection over approximately 5 minutes.

Meropenem is given as an injection into a vein every 8 hours. The length of treatment depends on your infection and how you respond. Once you start to feel better, your doctor may change you to an oral antibiotic to finish the treatment.

During the first several days of treatment with meropenem injection you should begin to feel better. Contact your doctor if your symptoms get worse or do not get better.

Even if you start to feel better, keep using the meropenem injection until you have taken the whole prescription. If you do not complete the full course of treatment with meropenem injections or miss doses, your infection may not be cured and the bacteria may become resistant to the antibiotics.
